Everybody has been talking about crystal spheres and phlogiston in game. I had no idea there was a spelljammer 3rd ed.
Personally I'm all for saying that we're sailing through the Astral, and sometimes it looks funny and there are barriers. Messy? Kinda, but you end up with sooo many things acting as transitive planes otherwise.
"A 3rd edition remake of the setting appeared in an issue of Dungeon Magazine. While thematically identical to the original Spelljammer (although with its own default campaign setting limited to a single system), it removes the Phlogiston/Crystal Spheres to replace them with the vacuum of space and star systems/galaxies, with the notable difference that suns are also portals the Elemental Plane of Fire with their own atmospheres and natural satellites (apparently magic still outright replaces physics). Additionally, a later issue of Dragon Magazine included 3rd edition versions of popular Spelljammer races. Other than that it was mostly abandoned (no proper products) and left to fans."
That's from TVTropes, but I saw it elsewhere too. It's no problem on the Astral, just wondering what to consider should our PC's journey take them to the Prime.
Phlogiston paths kind of gives us a reason for having to go through certain universes instead of just making a beeline for the end though, and as Mimi said; nearly everything discussed IC so far has been according to the 2nd 2d canon. There's also information online that mostly pertains to 2nd ed with very, very, very little on 3rd. Considering how uncommon Jammer stuff is in general, that says something.
*hugs 'jammers* ... now, all the fine points on the table. Phlogiston is something I find offensively restrictive. And Astral, that's pure "meh", to be honest. Astral, aside an occasional gith here and there, is pretty much like "hyperspace" for the rare few jammers that are actually planejump capable (aside a handful, most are NOT - one prime example being The Tangerine Queen, SCoD, which can breach through plane barriers at will, and very often does).

Uh, side note, and I'm sorry, but who are you anikaiful?
Dear Mr."Uh, side note", why do you ask? At Sigil I'm known as Mir Fnar - not a lot of new players recognize the name tho, in past year I've been on and off very infrequently.

Hello Anikaiful and welcome. The reason Mimi is asking whom you are is because most of us have played together at some point or another on SCoD. As this project is by Invitation She and I are just wondering whom invited you, and for us to get to know you and you Us its best if we try to keep things friendly here. Please.

I asked because I wanted to make sure you weren't somebody I know hiding under another name. This is going to be an invite-only campaign world centering on a smallish group of characters who already play together on Sigil, so it kinda matters. . .

I didn't intend to feel hostile. But that is how I am. And bear with me, for I am blunt and to the root without decorating words.
